What does being a workaholic mean?

In order to make a living one must work, this is the rules of life. Those who don’t work hard will fall behind and wont be afforded the same opportunities as those that do, although too much work has various side-effects that can manifest themselves in many ways outside of the office. Being a workaholic means you have very little social time, you spend out of work hours talking about work which is normal although too much of this and you will find that you live a very unhappy life in the process. A steady and balanced lifestyle of work and a social life is key in living the most fulfilling lives possible.

Those who are incredibly work orientated are often those found in managerial roles, the kinds that have deadlines to contest with, and will so often put their lives on hold in order to achieve certain tasks. This is not a healthy way to live. You need a counterbalance in your life to keep you not only sane, but happy also. We so often take our personal lives for granted, which is why one should always strive to live the healthiest life possible; both mentally and physically.

When does being a workaholic become a mental health issue?

Depression is but one of the side effects of being far too work orientated. One will often feel lonely and will barely have any friends also, where social opportunities are set aside for work. We need some sort of balance in our lives as already stated. Defining a workaholic can be difficult as one might have a job that is very demanding of them, and it might not be as serious as one might think, it’s only when one begins to fatigue that this becomes a bad thing. There are options out there if you do feel yourself beginning to sink.
