What is Eczema? 

Also known as atopic eczema, eczema can be defined as an inflammatory condition that affects various areas of the skin, the most common being the hands and eyelids of the individual. Eczema is caused through the constant changes in the upper part of the skin. The symptoms of eczema can vary in severity depending on the individual. The most common symptoms of eczema is a redness of the skin, crusting and the thickening of the skin.

These symptoms, although not serious, could be seen as something repulsive in eyes of someone who happens to be self-conscious. Eczema is normally found in the genetics of the individual, thus making it somewhat hereditary, although certain creams/lotions can serve as a potential resolve. Eczema can affect anyone, of any sex and of any age.

When does Eczema become a mental issue?

Having severe levels of eczema is bound to make someone feel anxious. We often live our lives in constant fear that our appearance might be seen as cosmetically displeasing. Eczema only affects our skin, it is not something that poses any serious risk to our own mortality. We live in an age where appearance is everything, which is why so many of us out there will see eczema as something serious. Instead of learning to love our bodies we will instead choose to pinpoint certain parts of their own body while wishing it looked differently. Anxiety of this nature is not healthy for the overall mental state of the individual. Some will see eczema as nothing but a rather nagging skin disorder, whereas others will go out of their way to hide it from the world. This is not a healthy course of action, and anyone doing this should read below at a potential resolve to the feelings surrounding eczema.
