A fear of the dark will often stem from unresolved childhood issues that still permeate through your adult life. The only way to resolve this issues is through your own thoughts and feelings whenever the light goes off. We fear the unknown, and having the light off means that anything could happen without you knowing about it, or at least that’s what someone afraid of the dark will tell you. It is from our animal instincts that we feel more comfortable when there is light. We are not beings that can see in the dark which can make it difficult to understand the dark, especially when the mind happens to wander, and wander it does.
A fear of the dark is often associated within children although this still doesn’t mean that adults are impervious to this fear. There are various items one can purchase to feel more comfortable whenever the light is off, such as a night light which will light up a small portion of ones room while not being so bright in that it will wake you. We would recommend facing these fears head-on and challenging your fears in hope of sleeping normally with the lights turned all the way off.
When does a fear of the dark become a mental health issue?
A fear of the dark will create feelings of anxiety within the individual. This can and will affect the morale of the individual throughout the entirety of their day and not just from the nighttime. This is a fear that affects ones sleeping pattern, a bipolar sleeping pattern will not help you in your daily activities. You are only doing more harm to yourself, thinking about what might be in your room rather than coming to terms with yourself and your issues. See below for a potential resolve to a constant fear of the dark.

A potential resolve to a fear of the Dark
Those who happen to fear the dark might want to look into The Hudson Mind Theory (HMT), which could be the answer they’ve been searching for. This theory allows one the ability to remove negative thoughts from the brain itself, thus allowing one the ability to control their own feelings and thoughts in ways they didn’t think were possible. This is a tried and tested method of self-evaluation that is perfect for those that happen to feel fear whenever the lights dim. The methods taught here can be applied in a variety of different settings that all work towards channeling your feelings in a more healthy manner. This is the best way of going through your own personal thoughts and feelings in a calm and controlled manner.
Sessions for HMT allow one to counteract their woes rather quickly, and can even take place via Skype and FaceTime respectively.
