The mental toll it must take on someone self harming themselves must be a lot, otherwise why else would these people do such a thing? For them, this is a form of release, a way that attacks at the body and mind of the individual, with each cut representing some sort of penance. Normally we work through our own differences internally rather than externally, allowing us to micromanage our own feelings without having to resort to the extreme, the extreme in this case is self harm. Self harming one’s self affects anyone and everyone, age, gender and background is not important to these sorts of issues, thus making it rather important to resolve quickly if this is something of a repeated issue.
Emotions are often running high when it comes to self-harm. The origins behind self harm stem from ones own issues within themselves. This is not easy for them to deal with, if anything it is harder for them to not harm themselves than to lash out at someone telling them to do otherwise. Working these issues out by yourself is instrumental in moving on and living a much happier life for it. When does self harm become a mental health issue?
Self harm will never not be a mental health issue. Depression and anxiety are the two main causes for self harm, targeting us when we’re at our lowest, often with ramifications. Many will self harm with the intention of scarring themselves, thus reminding themselves of a certain moment or feeling. It goes without saying, but this is not a healthy way of living ones own life.
